Polüstüreenplaat

Polüstüreenplaat, often abbreviated as EPS, is a rigid cellular plastic material produced from polystyrene. It is manufactured by expanding small polystyrene beads, which contain a blowing agent. Under the influence of heat and steam, the beads expand and fuse together, forming blocks that can then be cut into sheets or molded into specific shapes. The resulting material is lightweight, possesses excellent thermal insulation properties, and is resistant to moisture and many chemicals.

The primary application of polüstüreenplaat is as thermal insulation in the construction industry. It is widely used for insulating walls, roofs, and floors in both residential and commercial buildings. Its low thermal conductivity significantly reduces heat transfer, leading to energy savings and improved indoor comfort. Beyond insulation, EPS is also employed in packaging to protect fragile goods during transit due to its shock-absorbing capabilities. It can also be found in lightweight concrete, decorative elements, and as a core material in composite structures.

Polüstüreenplaat is characterized by its closed-cell structure, which contributes to its excellent insulating and moisture-resistant properties. It is relatively inexpensive to produce and easy to work with, making it a popular choice for various applications. While it is a combustible material, it is often treated with flame retardants to improve its fire performance. Recycling of EPS is possible, although the logistics can be challenging due to its low density.
