Polyelasticity
Polyelasticity is a term used in materials science and solid mechanics to describe the behavior of certain materials that exhibit multiple, distinct elastic regimes. In simpler terms, a polyelastic material will behave elastically in one range of applied stress, but upon reaching a certain stress threshold, its elastic properties will change, and it will enter a new elastic regime with different stiffness or deformation characteristics. This change is still within the realm of elastic behavior, meaning the material will return to its original shape once the stress is removed, but the relationship between stress and strain is altered.
This phenomenon is distinct from plasticity, where permanent deformation occurs. In polyelasticity, the material remains perfectly
