Polikistik

Polikistik is a term that can refer to several different medical conditions, most commonly Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Symptoms include irregular menstrual periods, excess male hormones, and polycystic ovaries, which means the ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid called follicles and fail to regularly release eggs. The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, but insulin resistance and genetic factors are thought to play a role. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and reducing the risk of long-term health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous cysts in the kidneys. These cysts can enlarge the kidneys and impair their function, potentially leading to kidney failure. PKD can also cause cysts in other organs, such as the liver. There are two main types: autosomal dominant PKD, which is more common, and autosomal recessive PKD, which is rarer and often more severe. There is no cure for PKD, but treatments aim to manage symptoms, slow the progression of kidney disease, and prevent complications.
