Platformfüggetlenek refers to software, hardware, or content that can operate or be used across multiple different computing platforms without modification. This is often achieved through standardized protocols, widely adopted programming languages, or abstract layers that abstract away the specifics of the underlying operating system or hardware.

In software development, platform independence is a key design goal for many applications. Developers aim to write code that can compile and run on various operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux. This can be facilitated by using cross-platform frameworks or languages like Java (which uses a virtual machine) or by adhering to open standards. Web applications are inherently platform-independent as they are accessed through web browsers, which are themselves designed to run on different operating systems.

Hardware components can also be considered platform-independent if they can be integrated and function with diverse systems. For example, a USB device is generally platform-independent because its interface is standardized and supported by most modern operating systems.

Content, such as digital media files (e.g., MP3 audio, JPEG images, MP4 video), is often platform-independent if it uses common, widely supported file formats and codecs. This allows users to access and enjoy the content regardless of the device or operating system they are using, provided the necessary software player is available.
