PlatformOne

Platform One is a U.S. Department of Defense program that provides a standardized, secure cloud-native platform for software development and operations across DoD components. It aims to accelerate software delivery to the field while enforcing security, compliance, and interoperability through a common toolset and governance model. The platform is designed to host DoD applications in a repeatable, auditable manner, regardless of the underlying cloud or data center.

The core offering, often referred to as P1 Core, provides the foundation services needed by developers: identity and access management, networking, artifact repositories, logging and monitoring, secret management, and policy-driven governance. It includes a container orchestration layer, commonly Kubernetes-based, and supports cloud-native tooling for continuous integration and deployment pipelines, automated testing, and secure deployment to production. A curated catalog of reusable services and patterns—from security controls to deployment templates—enables developers to assemble capabilities quickly while preserving DoD security baselines.

Governance and security are central to Platform One. The program enforces compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards, risk management framework requirements, and continuous monitoring, with automated security checks and auditing embedded in the pipelines. It operates under a Platform One program office with collaboration across DoD components, including the Defense Digital Service and other services, to maintain and evolve the platform.

Platform One has been adopted by multiple DoD organizations to reduce tool sprawl, improve security posture, and shorten software delivery cycles, supporting a more consistent, secure approach to modern software development.
