Plastfraktioner

Plastfraktioner refers to the different types of plastic materials that are separated during the recycling process. This separation is crucial for efficient and effective plastic recycling, as different types of plastics have distinct chemical compositions and melting points, requiring different processing methods.

Common plastfraktioner include PET (polyethylene terephthalate), commonly found in beverage bottles and food packaging; HDPE (high-density polyethylene), used in milk jugs, detergent bottles, and pipes; PVC (polyvinyl chloride), often seen in window frames, pipes, and flooring; LDPE (low-density polyethylene), used for plastic bags and films; PP (polypropylene), found in containers, car parts, and textiles; and PS (polystyrene), used in disposable cutlery, foam packaging, and CD cases.

The identification and sorting of these plastfraktioner are typically done through a combination of automated and manual processes. Automated sorting systems often use infrared spectroscopy to identify different plastic polymers based on their light absorption properties. Manual sorting may be employed to remove contaminants or to further refine the sorted fractions.

Once separated, each plastfraktion can be processed into recycled plastic pellets, which are then used to manufacture new products. This hierarchical approach to plastic recycling minimizes contamination and maximizes the quality and usability of the recycled material, contributing to a more circular economy. Without proper plastfraktioner separation, the quality of recycled plastic would be significantly compromised, limiting its applications and overall effectiveness as a sustainable material.
