Pipelineaktiviteter, or pipeline activities, denote the set of tasks involved in planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining pipelines. While the term is most commonly used in the energy and utilities sectors to describe physical pipelines that transport liquids and gases, it is also applied to data and software pipelines in information technology, where data flows through a sequence of processing steps.

In physical pipelines, activities begin with route selection, field surveys, environmental impact assessments, permitting, and design. Procurement of materials and equipment, construction, hydrostatic testing, commissioning, and startup follow. Once in operation, ongoing activities include monitoring, inspection, maintenance, corrosion protection, and integrity management to prevent leaks and ruptures. End-of-life work may involve decommissioning and site restoration.

In IT contexts, pipeline activities cover the development and operation of data pipelines and CI/CD pipelines, including data extraction, transformation, loading, validation, and orchestration, as well as automated software build, test, and deployment processes.

Regulatory and safety considerations are central to pipeline activities. Physical pipelines require risk assessments, emergency response plans, right-of-way management, and compliance with industry standards and environmental laws. Data pipelines involve governance, security, privacy, and compliance with information management standards.

Project management aspects include cost estimation, scheduling, stakeholder coordination, and lifecycle management to ensure reliability, efficiency, and minimal environmental impact across the asset's life.
