Pingutusseadmed, also known as "pingutuss" or "pingutussmed," refers to a traditional Estonian folk remedy used primarily for treating respiratory ailments, particularly coughs and congestion. The term combines "pingutama" (to massage) and "seadmed" (devices or tools), indicating that the remedy involves the application of warm, often herbal compresses or poultices to the chest or back.

The practice dates back to pre-modern Estonian medicine, where natural ingredients like honey, mustard, vodka, or heated herbs such as thyme, chamomile, or pine needles were commonly used. These ingredients were mixed into a paste or infused into cloths, which were then applied to the affected area. The warmth was believed to loosen mucus, improve circulation, and soothe irritation in the respiratory tract.

While pingutusseadmed was widely used in rural communities, its effectiveness is now considered complementary rather than scientifically proven. Modern medicine does recognize that heat can provide temporary relief from congestion and muscle tension, but it does not replace evidence-based treatments for serious respiratory conditions.
