Pilotgesteuerte

Pilotgesteuerte is a German term used in engineering to describe devices whose actuation is controlled by a pilot signal. In this context, the main element (such as a valve or a switch) is operated by a small auxiliary signal rather than directly by the primary fluid or power path. The pilot signal can be hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, or mechanical.

The principle involves a pilot chamber or control line that feeds the main actuator. When the pilot pressure or signal reaches a threshold, it shifts the position of the main valve or actuator, enabling or blocking flow or current in the primary circuit. This arrangement allows high-power or high-flow elements to be controlled with low-power, small-diameter signals. Common implementations include pilot-operated relief valves, pilot-operated check valves, and pilot-operated directional or proportional valves. In many hydraulic systems, a separate solenoid valve or electronic controller provides the pilot signal.

Typical applications are in industrial automation, mobile hydraulics, and machine tools, where precise control of large or high-pressure circuits is needed without requiring large actuation forces. Advantages include isolation of control from the main power path, faster response for large valves, and the ability to implement remote or automatic control. Limitations involve added circuit complexity, potential pilot-line leaks, and sensitivity to contamination or pressure fluctuations, which require careful design and maintenance.
