Pikaks

Pikaks are a fictional life form featured in speculative fiction, worldbuilding projects, and certain tabletop and video game settings. They are not a real species and there is no scientific consensus about their biology.

In most portrayals, pikaks are small to medium-sized and possess a gelatinous, translucent body that can alter its shape. They often show bioluminescence and may range in color. They can form flexible, tentacle-like extensions to interact with their environment.

Ecology and behavior: Pikaks typically inhabit dark, moist environments—caves, ruined megastructures, or underwater caves—where they form mutualistic relationships with fungi and microbial mats. They move slowly, feed on organic particles, and use chemical signals and light pulses to communicate. Some depictions grant them collective intelligence via hive-like colonies, while others depict individual sentience and curiosity toward outsiders.

Reproduction and development: They reproduce asexually through branching or budding, or via exchange of genetic material among colony members in some settings.

In culture: Pikaks appear in various novels, games, and fan works as enigmatic aliens, forest-dwellers, or guardians of ancient ruins. They are typically portrayed as peaceful, inquisitive beings with long memory, though some narratives highlight peril or misinterpretation by humans.
