Pielietojot

Pielietojot, also known as the European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus), is a small, nocturnal mammal native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is characterized by its spiny coat, which is adapted for protection against predators. The species is known for its ability to roll into a ball when threatened, a behavior that helps to deter predators by making it difficult to grasp.

The European hedgehog is omnivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, small vertebrates, and plant material. It is also known to scavenge for food, including carrion. The animal is solitary and territorial, with males and females typically occupying separate home ranges. Breeding occurs in the spring, with females giving birth to a litter of one to four young after a gestation period of approximately 30 days.

Pielietojot play a role in the ecosystem by controlling insect populations and serving as a food source for larger predators. However, their populations have declined in recent decades due to habitat loss, roadkill, and other human-related factors. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species and its habitats.
