Pickzones
Pickzones, sometimes written as 'pick zones' or 'pickzones' in jargon, are defined areas within a warehouse or distribution center designated for the systematic retrieval of items to fulfill customer orders. The concept is central to zone picking, a picking strategy in which each picker is assigned to one or more zones and responsible for collecting items from those zones for multiple orders. By focusing the picker’s movement to a limited portion of the facility, pick zones aim to reduce travel distance, improve throughput, and enhance ergonomics.
Zones are typically arranged by physical area, product families, or velocity, and may be fixed or dynamically
Design considerations include zone size, aisle width, pick faces, and buffer or clearance areas for overflow.
Benefits include shorter pick routes, improved accuracy due to staying within a compact area, easier training,
