Phlebectomia

Phlebectomia is a medical procedure used to remove superficial varicose veins. It is a minimally invasive technique, often performed under local anesthesia, to treat visible and palpable venous abnormalities. The procedure typically involves making small incisions along the path of the affected vein. Through these incisions, the varicose vein is then grasped and extracted in segments. This method is particularly effective for larger, more tortuous varicose veins that are close to the skin's surface.

The recovery period following phlebectomia is generally short, with patients often able to resume normal activities within a few days. Bruising and minor discomfort are common side effects but usually subside quickly. Compression stockings are often recommended post-procedure to aid in healing and prevent recurrence. Phlebectomia is distinct from other vein treatments like sclerotherapy, which uses injections, or endovenous ablation, which uses heat to close the vein from within. The choice of treatment depends on the size, location, and severity of the varicose veins, as well as the patient's overall health. It is a well-established technique for managing symptomatic superficial venous insufficiency.
