Perusprototyyppilevyjen, commonly known as breadboards, are essential tools in electronics prototyping. They are solderless devices that allow users to quickly assemble and test electronic circuits without the need for soldering. A breadboard consists of a grid of holes that are interconnected internally in a specific pattern. These connections allow components like resistors, capacitors, and integrated circuits to be plugged in and wired together easily.

The internal connections are typically made via metal clips underneath the plastic casing. These clips provide a temporary electrical connection between the leads of components inserted into the same row or column, depending on the breadboard's design. Most breadboards have two main areas: a central area with rows of holes for component leads and two or more long horizontal "power rails" along the sides, used for distributing power and ground connections throughout the circuit.

Breadboards are ideal for educational purposes, hobbyist projects, and professional circuit development due to their ease of use and reusability. They enable rapid iteration and modification of circuit designs, making the troubleshooting process more efficient. While they are excellent for low-frequency and low-power applications, their inherent resistance and capacitance can become significant in high-frequency or high-power circuits, necessitating the use of more permanent prototyping methods for such applications.
