Storage devices, while sometimes integrated into the computer, are frequently considered peripherals when they are external. These devices are used to store data persistently. Examples include external hard drives, USB flash drives, and optical drives. External hard drives offer large storage capacities for backups or additional data. USB flash drives provide portable storage for transferring files. Optical drives, such as CD or DVD drives, read and write data to optical media.

The connection of peripherals to a computer is typically achieved through various ports and interfaces, such as USB (Universal Serial Bus), HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), and Thunderbolt. The selection of peripherals depends on the user's specific needs and intended use of the computer, ranging from basic productivity tasks to specialized applications like graphic design or gaming.
