Pelastusarmeija
Pelastusarmeija, often translated as the “Rescue Troops,” is a specialized component of the Finnish Defence Forces dedicated to supporting civilian authorities during emergencies and natural disasters. It operates under the principle of mutual aid between the military and civilian agencies, providing manpower, logistical support, and technical expertise in situations such as floods, fires, avalanches, and large-scale accidents. The unit is staffed by reservists who undergo additional training beyond the standard reserve duties. This training emphasises disaster response, civil engineering, medical first aid, and coordination with local municipalities and the Finnish Emergency Management Institute.
