Parashara

Parashara is a revered sage in ancient Indian tradition, primarily known for his contributions to Vedic astrology and Dharmaśāstra. He is often considered the author of the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, a foundational text on Hindu astrology. This treatise is believed to be a compilation of astrological knowledge passed down through generations, with Parashara credited for its systematic organization and detailed explanations of planetary influences, astrological houses, and various predictive techniques.

Beyond astrology, Parashara is also recognized for his work in the field of Dharmaśāstra, the study of Hindu law and ethics. Tradition places Parashara as the son of Sage Vashistha and the father of Sage Vyasa, the compiler of the Vedas and author of the Mahabharata.
