The name itself is a compound of "paneeli" (panel) and "venttiili" (valve or vent), suggesting a system that utilizes paneling and vents.

This ventilation method typically involves a natural airflow driven by differences in air pressure and temperature. Small, often adjustable vents, known as panel vents, are installed in exterior walls, usually near windows. These vents allow fresh outdoor air to enter the building, displacing stale indoor air which then exits through another set of vents, often located in kitchens, bathrooms, or other high-moisture areas, and sometimes in the roof.
