Some scholars reserve it for theoretical discussions about patterns that resemble a cluster of pandemics rather than a single widespread outbreak.

Causes and mechanisms: Global travel, animal reservoirs, climate-driven range shifts, pathogen evolution, antimicrobial resistance, and socio-economic factors can foster pandeemias. They may involve zoonotic spillover, environmental disruption, and uneven health system readiness, with interregional transmission facilitated by connected economies and ecosystems.
