Panagbenga

Panagbenga is an annual flower festival celebrated in Baguio City, Philippines. The name "Panagbenga" is a Kankanaey term meaning "season of blooming". The festival typically takes place in February and lasts for a month, showcasing the vibrant floral diversity of the city, which is known as the "Summer Capital of the Philippines".

The highlight of Panagbenga is the grand street dancing parade, where participants in elaborate costumes dance to festive music. Floats adorned with fresh flowers from Baguio and surrounding regions are a central attraction. These floats are often designed to represent historical events, cultural motifs, or simply to celebrate the beauty of nature. Local schools, cultural groups, and communities actively participate in the parade, drawing large crowds of both locals and tourists.

Beyond the parade, the festival features a multitude of events. These include a flower arrangement competition, a bazaar selling local crafts and produce, open-air concerts, and exhibitions. The festival serves as a significant economic driver for Baguio, attracting a large number of visitors and boosting local businesses. It is also a celebration of the rich culture and heritage of the Cordillera Administrative Region. The festival was first held in 1995, initiated by the people of Baguio to revitalize the city's spirit after a major earthquake in 1990.
