PLLbased refers to designs and systems that rely on a phase-locked loop (PLL) to synchronize a local oscillator to a stable reference signal. In a PLLbased system, the reference oscillator (or clock) provides a steady input against which the phase of a controlled oscillator is compared. A phase detector generates an error signal proportional to the phase difference between the reference and the divided feedback signal. This error is filtered by a loop filter and used to adjust a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) or digitally controlled oscillator, closing the feedback loop so the output tracks the reference in phase and frequency.
