PHOTOPAINT

PHOTOPAINT is a raster graphics editor developed by Corel and distributed as part of the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. It provides tools for photo editing, image composition, and digital painting, with support for layers, masks, selections, brush-based painting, cloning and healing, and a range of filter effects. The program is designed to work alongside CorelDRAW’s vector tools, enabling integrated bitmap and vector workflows.

PHOTOPAINT originated in Corel’s early 1990s graphics software line as a companion to CorelDRAW. Over successive releases it was integrated more closely with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and was marketed as Corel PHOTO-PAINT. In modern suites it remains the raster editor counterpart to CorelDRAW, sharing file formats and color-management settings across applications.

Key features include layer-based editing with layer masks, selection tools, painting and cloning tools, content-editing options, and a suite of color correction and tone-mapping controls. Newer versions add enhanced color management, CMYK support, RAW workflows, and improved interoperability with other Corel applications and plugins.

PHOTOPAINT saves projects in Corel’s native CPT format and supports import and export of common image formats such as PSD, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, and GIF, facilitating cross-application workflows with CorelDRAW and third-party software.

Platform availability and distribution: Corel PHOTO-PAINT is included on Windows and macOS builds of the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and targets professional designers and hobbyists who perform photo retouching, compositing, and digital painting as part of a broader graphic production workflow.
