PEDsäädös refers to the European Union's Pressure Equipment Directive. This directive, officially Directive 2014/68/EU, sets out essential safety requirements for the design, manufacture, and conformity assessment of pressure equipment placed on the EU market. Its primary aim is to ensure a high level of safety for users and third parties by harmonizing the rules across all member states.

The scope of the PEDsäädös covers a wide range of equipment operating at pressures above 0.5 bar gauge, including vessels, piping, safety accessories, and pressure accessories. It applies to both stationary and transportable equipment. Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring their products comply with the directive before they can be CE marked and freely circulate within the European Economic Area.

Conformity assessment procedures, as defined by the PEDsäädös, vary depending on the hazard category of the equipment. These categories are determined by factors such as pressure, volume, and the nature of the fluid contained. Manufacturers must select the appropriate conformity assessment route, which may involve third-party notified bodies for higher-risk equipment. The directive promotes free movement of goods while upholding stringent safety standards.
