Põlemapõlemine

Põlemapõlemine refers to a phenomenon observed in certain types of wood where the burning process creates a distinctive, prolonged smoldering without significant flame. This is often associated with specific wood species or conditions of combustion. Unlike rapid, flame-driven fires, põlemapõlemine is characterized by a slow release of heat and smoke.

This type of burning is often a result of incomplete combustion, where there is insufficient oxygen or the material is densely packed. The wood gradually decomposes at high temperatures, producing flammable gases that burn slowly, if at all, directly at the surface. This process can contribute to the longevity of a fire, especially in enclosed spaces like a hearth or a well-insulated stove.

Certain types of wood, such as dense hardwoods or wood with high resin content, may be more prone to põlemapõlemine under specific circumstances.
