OyamelKiefernwäldern
Oyamel fir forests, scientifically known as Abies religiosa, are a type of coniferous forest found primarily in the trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt of central Mexico. These forests are characterized by a dominance of the sacred fir tree, Oyamel, which is native to this region. The elevation at which these forests thrive typically ranges from 2,400 to 3,600 meters (7,900 to 11,800 feet) above sea level. The climate in these high-altitude areas is generally cool and humid, with significant fog cover, especially during the winter months. This microclimate is crucial for the survival of the Oyamel fir.
These forests are most famously known as the overwintering habitat for the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus).
Deforestation and habitat degradation pose significant threats to both the Oyamel fir forests and the monarch
