Osmanabad

Osmanabad is a city and municipal council that serves as the administrative headquarters of Osmanabad district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Located in the Marathwada region of central Maharashtra, it sits in a semi-arid plain and is closely connected with nearby towns such as Tuljapur and Parli Vaijnath. Marathi is the predominant language of the locality.

Historically part of the Hyderabad State, the area became part of Bombay State after India's reorganization and is now within Maharashtra. Since the 1990s, Osmanabad district has included several talukas such as Osmanabad, Tuljapur, Paranda, Ausa, Umarga, and Parli Vaijnath.

Osmanabad and its district are known for religious sites, especially the Tulja Bhavani Temple at Tuljapur and the Parli Vaijnath Temple in Parli Vaijnath taluka, both major pilgrimage sites in the region. The district was among the areas severely affected by the 1993 Latur earthquake, which caused widespread damage and prompted extensive relief and rebuilding efforts across the affected towns, including Osmanabad.

Economy is predominantly agricultural, with crops such as sugarcane, jowar, and pulses supported by irrigation projects. Osmanabad is linked by state highways and regional roads; the nearest railway stations are in Latur and Parli Vaijnath, and the closest airports are in Nanded and Aurangabad.
