Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana, situated on the Deccan Plateau along the Musi River. It is a major economic, IT, and cultural center in southern India, with a historic core around Charminar and a modern technology corridor known as Cyberabad.

Founded in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, Hyderabad was the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and later the seat of the Nizams, rulers of the princely state of Hyderabad. The city joined the Indian Union in 1948 after Operation Polo and became part of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and subsequently part of Telangana after the 2014 state reorganization.

Hyderabad hosts a large information technology and biotech sector, with international firms and start-ups concentrated in areas such as HITEC City. The city is also known for pharmaceuticals, higher education institutions like the University of Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad, and IIIT Hyderabad, and for the film industry in and around Ramoji Film City.

Major landmarks include Charminar, Golconda Fort, Chowmahalla Palace, and the spiritual landmark Mecca Masjid. Hussain Sagar lake, the Birla Planetarium, and Nehru Zoological Park are popular attractions. The city is famed for its cuisine, particularly biryani and kebabs.
