Optoutvalikud, or opt-out options, refer to mechanisms that allow individuals to decline, limit, or revoke consent for the collection, use, or sharing of their personal data, and to stop receiving non-essential marketing communications. They are designed to give users control over data practices while preserving access to services that rely on non-sensitive data.

Regulatory frameworks such as the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) emphasize that consent must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous. While not all processing requires consent, many activities—such as personalized advertising or third-party data sharing—rely on opt-out mechanisms to respect the right to object. The ePrivacy Directive and national laws further address cookies and direct marketing.

Common forms of optoutvalikud include cookie banners with revoke options (often a "reject all" control), unsubscribe links in marketing emails, account settings to disable personalized ads or data sharing with partners, and centralized consent management platforms that store user preferences. There is a distinction between hard opt-out (automatic withdrawal unless action is taken) and soft opt-out (data processing limited but not stopped).

Implementation considerations include making opt-out controls accessible and easy to locate, ensuring repudiation is simple, and keeping records of user decisions. Services should default to essential data processing and require affirmative action to enable non-essential processing. The opt-out state should be enforceable across devices and related partners depending on the policy.

Critics argue that opt-out mechanisms can create privacy fatigue or be buried in settings, reducing their effectiveness. Some platforms use opt-out as a de facto norm, while others offer robust consent management platforms that provide granular control and clear information about data flows.
