Optiopohjaisuus
Optiopohjaisuus is a Finnish term referring to an approach in which analysis, policy design, and decision making are grounded in optimization of a predefined objective function. The core idea is to identify choices that maximize (or minimize) a scalar criterion subject to constraints, and to use mathematical models and data to guide recommendations. The concept is used across disciplines such as operations research, econometrics, management science, and public administration, where objectives might include cost efficiency, welfare, productivity, or risk-adjusted utility. In practice optiopohjaisuus can manifest in model-based decision support, algorithm design, and strategic planning, where the emphasis is on deriving optimal solutions within specified assumptions.
In Finnish discourse the term is often discussed in relation to methodological choices: it foregrounds quantitative
