Oppositsiooni

Oppositsiooni is an Estonian political party that was active during the late Soviet era and the early post-independence period. Formed in 1989 as part of the broader democratic movement in Estonia, it emerged as a key opposition force against the Soviet authorities and the conservative Estonian Communist Party. The party advocated for greater political freedoms, cultural autonomy, and eventual independence from the Soviet Union.

The name "Oppositsiooni" translates to "Opposition" in English, reflecting its role in challenging the established Soviet-aligned political system. It played a significant role in the 1989 Estonian parliamentary elections, which were the first partially free elections held in the Soviet Union.
