Onderbuikpijn

Onderbuikpijn refers to discomfort or pain felt in the lower abdominal region. This area encompasses organs such as the intestines, bladder, reproductive organs, and appendix. The sensation can vary greatly, ranging from a dull ache to sharp, stabbing pain, and may be constant or intermittent.

There are numerous potential causes for onderbuikpijn. In women, common culprits include menstrual cramps, ovulation pain, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis. Pregnancy-related issues like ectopic pregnancy can also cause severe lower abdominal pain. In men, conditions like prostatitis or testicular torsion might present with this type of pain.

Gastrointestinal issues are also frequent contributors. Appendicitis, characterized by sharp pain that often starts near the navel and moves to the lower right abdomen, is a medical emergency. Other digestive problems like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, diarrhea, or intestinal blockages can manifest as lower abdominal discomfort. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney stones can also radiate pain to this area.
