Ojut

Ojut is a fictional city-state located on a crescent-shaped coastline in the northern maritime region of the imagined continent of Veridia. It is described as a hub of trade and scholarship, with a natural harbor protected by a breakwater and an inland terrain of rolling hills and marshlands. The name is thought to derive from the Old Veridian word oj, meaning “meeting place,” though variations appear in different sources.

Historically, Ojut arose as a mercantile coalition among rival fleets in a period of regional fragmentation. It developed as a port of exchange for goods from inland towns and overseas colonies, becoming known for its guilds and its librarians. In the fictional chronology, it experienced a series of rapid booms and political reforms, followed by occasional conflicts that shaped its balance between merchant power and civic institutions.

Ojut is governed by a Council of Guildmasters and civic elders, led by a Speaker who acts as head of state and moderator of policy. The economy centers on maritime trade, textiles, glassware, and shipbuilding, supported by a quay district, a warehouse complex, and a university-like academy.

The city hosts a multilingual population drawn from coastal towns and inland settlements, with festivals celebrating tides, markets, and scholarly achievement. Notable landmarks include the Harbor Gate, the Market Hall, and the Library of Dawn. Ojut has appeared in several fictional anthologies and role-playing campaigns, often described as a crossroads for cultures and ideas.
