Odmastí

Odmastí is a traditional Viking-age maritime mechanism used in Scandinavian shipbuilding to assist with the raising and lowering of sails on large ships. The term originates from Old Norse, where "od" can refer to a wave or surge, and "mastí" relates to the mast or pole, emphasizing its function in managing masts and sails amid turbulent seas.

This system typically consists of a combination of pulleys, ropes, and counterweights designed to distribute the weight of the sail and mast, making it easier for sailors to control the massive structures necessary for propulsion.
