Oberlichtern
Oberlichtern is a German term that translates to "clerestory" in English. It refers to a window or series of windows placed in the upper part of a wall, typically above the main roofline or higher than the surrounding windows. These windows are designed to admit light into a building or space from a high level. Historically, clerestory windows were a common feature in religious architecture, such as churches and cathedrals, where they allowed natural light to illuminate the nave and altar areas, often creating a dramatic and ethereal atmosphere.
In secular architecture, oberlichtern serve a similar purpose, providing natural light and ventilation to interior spaces
