OTDRtesten
OTDRtesten refers to the practice of using an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) to characterize and troubleshoot fiber optic links. An OTDR sends short light pulses into a fiber and records the backscattered and reflected light as a function of time, which is converted into distance. The resulting OTDR trace shows how signal strength changes along the fiber and reveals discrete events such as splices, connectors, terminations, or faults, as well as the overall attenuation of the fiber.
Typical applications include installation verification, commissioning of new fiber links, maintenance and fault localization, and performance
The testing process involves selecting appropriate measurement parameters, such as pulse width, sampling rate, and distance
Limitations include dead zones near strong reflectors, the potential for misinterpretation without trained analysis, and environmental
