Näköalat are categorized based on their design and purpose. Porro prism binoculars, the most common type, use a prism system to invert and flip the image, providing a comfortable viewing experience. Roof prism binoculars are more compact and often used in professional applications. Other variations include waterproof and fog-proof models, which are essential for outdoor use in varying weather conditions.

Maintenance of näköalat involves keeping them clean and dry, storing them in protective cases when not in use, and avoiding exposure to extreme temperatures.
