Nyrith is a fictional city-state in a high-fantasy setting, situated on the eastern coast of the Azure Sea. Known for its glassmaking, mercantile traditions, and cosmopolitan harbor, Nyrith serves as a regional trading hub and cultural crossroads.

The city sits in a natural harbor sheltered by limestone cliffs and a river delta. Its streets ascend a stepped granite escarpment that overlooks the market and harbor. The climate is temperate with dry summers, creating favorable conditions for year-round trade and crafts.

Nyrith traces its origins to a cluster of fishing villages founded in the early medieval era. It expanded through trade with inland realms and maritime confederations, achieving autonomy through a guild-led republic in the late 7th century and later forming interregional alliances. Its history is marked by cycles of prosperity, famine, and diplomatic maneuvering among neighboring powers.

Nyrith is governed by the Council of Guilds, composed of representatives from major crafts, merchants, and harbor interests. A Magistrate, elected annually by the council, serves as chief executive and head of the city police. Citizens participate through guild councils, with limited suffrage tied to guild membership and residency.

The economy centers on glassmaking, metalwork, fishing, and port trade. The Harbor Market links inland suppliers with foreign merchants, while craft districts produce household wares, jewelry, and ships' fittings. Multilingualism is common; festivals blend local and immigrant traditions and reflect the city’s mercantile character.

Prominent sites include the Glass Gate, a ceremonial arch of translucent blue glass; the Tide Steps, a stone ascent along the harbor; and the Council Hall, a fortress-like building adjacent to the market. Religious life centers on ancestral rites and a sun cult, shaping local rituals and holidays.
