Nordmarch

Nordmarch is a fictional region and polity in the northern part of the federation of Eldoria. It is bordered by the Frost Sea to the north, the White Ridge Mountains to the west, and the plains of Northreach to the south. The region covers about 27,000 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 1.2 million. The capital and largest city is Northhaven.

Nordmarch comprises coastal towns, forested uplands, and highland plateaus. The climate ranges from cool maritime in coastal areas to cold temperate in the interior, with long winters and significant snowfall inland.

Governance and politics: Nordmarch operates with a regional council and a governor elected for four-year terms. It retains autonomy over education, transportation, and land use, while national defense and foreign affairs lie with the federal government. The council coordinates with municipalities through regional planning and public services.

Economy and infrastructure: The economy combines timber, fishing, and mining with growing service and tourism sectors. The port city of Northport is a logistical hub for regional trade. Renewable energy development, including hydro and wind, supports the grid. A continental rail line connects Northport with inland cities.

History and culture: Nordmarch originated as a frontier march in the early medieval era and gained broader autonomy during the 19th and 20th centuries. Local traditions include the Midwinter Light festival and woodcraft and shipbuilding crafts. Notable institutions include Northhaven University and the Nordmarch Museum of History.
