Nonsignalized

Nonsignalized refers to an intersection or location where traffic flow is controlled by means other than electric traffic signals. These control methods typically rely on the right-of-way rules established by traffic laws, driver behavior, and often, the presence of signage. Examples of nonsignalized intersections include those controlled by stop signs, yield signs, or simply by the general rule of yielding to the traffic on the major road or to vehicles already in the intersection. In the absence of signals, drivers are expected to assess the situation, communicate with other road users through eye contact and vehicle positioning, and proceed when it is safe to do so. The effectiveness of nonsignalized control is heavily dependent on driver awareness, adherence to traffic laws, and the volume and speed of traffic. In situations with high traffic volumes or complex intersection layouts, nonsignalized control can lead to delays, confusion, or an increased risk of collisions, prompting the consideration of signalization.
