Neurologiai are medical doctors who specialize in neurology, the medical field focused on disorders of the nervous system—the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, from acute emergencies such as stroke and seizure to chronic diseases such as epilepsy, migraine, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and neuropathies. They also manage sleep disorders and neuroinflammatory and infectious diseases affecting the nervous system.

In practice, neurologiai rely on patient history and neurological examination, supplemented by imaging (MRI, CT), electrophysiological tests (EEG, EMG/nerve conduction studies), lumbar puncture, and laboratory or genetic testing. Many conditions require ongoing management and coordination with other specialists, including neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, rehabilitation therapists, and primary care providers. Subspecialties include pediatric neurology, epilepsy, stroke, neuromuscular medicine, neuroimmunology, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurocritical care.

Training and work settings: after medical school, neurologiai complete residency in neurology, followed by optional fellowships in subspecialties. They work in hospitals, clinics, academic medical centers, and long-term care facilities. In addition to clinical care, many engage in teaching and research, contributing to clinical guidelines and trials that advance understanding of nervous system disorders. The field emphasizes patient-centered communication, informed consent, and multimodal management strategies to improve function and quality of life.
