Neostygiomurus

Neostygiomurus is a genus of Psocoptera (book lice, bark lice, and parasitic lice) in the family Pamphiliidae.

There are two species within this genus, Neostygiomurus antennatus and Neostygiomurus clypeatus. The species are found in East Asia, specifically in China and the Philippines.

Adult Neostygiomurus insects are typically small, ranging in length from 2 to 4 millimeters. They have elongated bodies with a paired antenna, and are often found on plants or tree bark. Their legs are long and slender, suited for movement on surfaces.

The diet of Neostygiomurus consists of plant materials, such as leaves, stems, and wood pulp. They often feed on the sap of trees, using their mouthparts to piercing the bark and sucking out the liquid.

These insects are often associated with decaying plant material, as they are commonly found in the same areas as other sap-sucking insects. Despite this, Neostygiomurus are generally considered harmless and play a role in the breakdown of organic matter.

Research into the classification of Neostygiomurus has led to some debate regarding their place within the Pamphiliidae family. Some studies have suggested a closer relationship to the family Myopsocidae, however this requires further investigation to confirm the validity of these claims.

Neostygiomurus is characterized by a distinctive morphology, characterized by elongated bodies and slender appendages. This unique shape allows them to inhabit the diverse range of environments found in East Asia's humid and temperate forests.
