Nedärvningsmönster refer to the ways in which genetic traits are passed down from parents to offspring. These patterns are determined by the genes inherited from each parent and how those genes interact. The most common patterns observed are autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked dominant, X-linked recessive, and Y-linked inheritance.

Autosomal dominant inheritance means that only one copy of an altered gene is sufficient to cause a trait or condition. If a parent has an autosomal dominant condition, each child has a 50% chance of inheriting the altered gene and the condition. Autosomal recessive inheritance requires two copies of an altered gene for the trait to manifest. Individuals with only one copy are carriers, but do not typically show symptoms. If both parents are carriers, each child has a 25% chance of inheriting the condition, a 50% chance of being a carrier, and a 25% chance of inheriting neither altered gene.

X-linked inheritance involves genes located on the X chromosome. X-linked dominant traits appear in both males and females, but males are often more severely affected. Affected fathers pass the trait to all their daughters but none of their sons. X-linked recessive traits are more common in males because they only have one X chromosome. An affected male will pass the gene to all his daughters, making them carriers, but none of his sons will inherit it unless the mother is also a carrier or affected. Y-linked inheritance is rare and affects only males, as the gene is passed directly from father to son via the Y chromosome.
