Nanokrystalinske refers to materials whose internal structure is dominated by nanoscale crystalline grains. In these materials, the crystallites—coherent regions of ordered atoms—typically measure from about 1 to 100 nanometers. Nanokrystalinske can be metals, ceramics, oxides, or composite systems, and they often exhibit a high volume fraction of grain boundaries, which strongly influences their properties.

The small grain size gives nanokrystalinske distinct mechanical and physical traits. They often show high yield strength and hardness due to grain boundary strengthening, described by the Hall-Petch relation, though some materials may exhibit inverse Hall-Petch behavior at very small sizes, with grain boundary sliding contributing to deformation. Enhanced diffusion along grain boundaries, increased wear resistance, and unique optical, catalytic, or electronic properties can also arise from the large grain-boundary area and high surface-to-volume ratio.

Synthesis and processing of nanokrystalinske employ both bottom-up and top-down approaches. Bottom-up methods include chemical synthesis, sol-gel, hydrothermal or solvothermal routes to form nanoscale crystallites, which can be assembled into bulk materials. Top-down approaches include high-energy ball milling and severe plastic deformation to reduce grain size in existing materials. Stabilizing nanocrystallinity against growth often requires alloying, the addition of second-phase particles (Zener pinning), surface coatings, or rapid processing.

Characterization typically uses X-ray diffraction to estimate crystallite size from peak broadening, transmission electron microscopy to image grains, and supplementary techniques such as XPS, EBSD, or BET to assess structure and surface properties. Applications span structural materials, coatings, catalysts, and energy storage, with ongoing research addressing stability and scale-up challenges.
