Namespaceaware

Namespaceaware, sometimes written as namespace-aware, is a term used in computing to describe systems, languages, or tools that recognize and properly handle namespaces—the named contexts that segregate identifiers to avoid collisions.

In programming languages, namespace awareness means that the language provides mechanisms for defining and referring to identifiers within distinct namespaces, and that the compiler or interpreter resolves names using those namespaces. In XML and related data formats, a namespaceaware processor uses namespace URIs declared with xmlns attributes to qualify element and attribute names.

Examples include languages with explicit namespace constructs (C++, Java packages, C# namespaces), XML parsers, and configuration or build tools that support multi-tenant or modular setups.

Implementation notes: symbol tables, scope resolution, and qualified names are typical techniques; in XML, namespace maps and qualified name handling are used. Tools may expose options to enable or disable namespace processing.
