Nameindexed is a data indexing approach that organizes and optimizes access to records by named entities such as people, organizations, and places, rather than by arbitrary or internal identifiers alone. The central idea is to create indexing structures that support rapid lookup, disambiguation, and presentation of results based on names as they appear in natural language.

Mechanism: A nameindexed system typically involves extraction and normalization of names from source data, construction of canonical forms, and maintenance of alias tables to handle variations, transliterations, and homographs. It relies on entity resolution to map different mentions to a single underlying entity. The index may be inverted, mapping tokens from names to document identifiers, and may be complemented by a forward index that stores metadata about each entity. Multilingual support and normalization rules are common challenges.

Applications: Nameindexed indexes are used in library catalogs, contact management systems, customer relationship management, news and social media analysis, and knowledge graphs, where users commonly search by person, organization, or location names.
