Möbelfront

In German-speaking contexts the term refers to any front part that is mounted on a cabinet. The front may be a solid panel, a frame-and-panel door, a slab door, or a door with integrated glass, depending on style and function.

Materials and finishes: Common materials include solid wood, wood veneer over plywood or MDF, particleboard cores with laminates, or high‑gloss lacquers. Finishes range from natural or stained wood to painted, laminated, or foil-wrapped surfaces. Edges are often protected with edge banding or matched veneers.

Construction and design: Doors and drawer fronts can be framed (frame-and-panel) or frameless (slab or panel). Overlays, inset, and partial overlays determine how the front sits relative to the cabinet carcass. Hardware options include traditional handles, contemporary pulls, or handleless systems with integrated or push-to-open mechanisms. Typical thicknesses for furniture fronts range from 16 to 22 millimeters, with thicker versions used for a solid, premium feel.

Manufacturing and usage: The front is cut, drilled for hardware, finished, and attached to cabinets using hinges and drawer slides. Durability considerations include matching core materials to prevent warping, resistance to humidity, and abrasion of finishes.
