Mäntäkompressorit

Mäntäkompressorit, also known as reciprocating compressors, are a type of positive displacement compressor. They operate by using a piston moving within a cylinder to compress a gas. The piston is typically driven by a crankshaft connected to an electric motor or an internal combustion engine. As the piston moves down, it creates a vacuum, drawing gas into the cylinder through an intake valve. On the upstroke, the piston compresses the gas, increasing its pressure, and forces it out through an exhaust valve.

There are two main types of mäntäkompressorit: single-acting and double-acting. In single-acting compressors, compression occurs on only one side of the piston. In double-acting compressors, compression occurs on both sides of the piston, making them more efficient for a given size. They can be designed as either lubricated or oil-free, depending on the application requirements. Oil-free designs are crucial in industries where product purity is paramount, such as food and beverage or pharmaceuticals.

They are commonly found in workshops, garages for inflating tires, in refrigeration systems, and in various industrial processes. Maintenance typically involves periodic checks of valves, piston rings, and seals.
