Mydrisering
Mydrisering is a ring-shaped moraine complex located in the hypothetical Mydrian Highlands. It is defined by a continuous ridge forming a circle that encloses a central lowland basin, which may host a lake or peatland. The term is used in geomorphology to describe a class of glacially formed features produced during late-stage retreat, when debris deposited along the glacier margin coalesces into a ring around the interior depression.
Formation and morphology: The ring results from a combination of lateral moraines and supraglacial sedimentation; as
Geography and examples: The best-known example is Mydriringen on Northshore Island, with several smaller rings scattered
Ecology: The interior basins support wetland ecosystems with sedges, mosses, and occasional orchid species; outer slopes
Human activity and conservation: Geologists study the formations as indicators of past glacial dynamics, while ecotourism
Etymology: The name derives from the regional language term myd- meaning ring and the suffix -ring, used
