Mutasarrflks was a title used in the Ottoman Empire and later in the Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon for a governor of a special administrative district. The term originates from the Arabic word "mutasarrif," meaning "one who governs" or "administrator." These districts, known as mutasarrifates, were granted a degree of autonomy and were often established for specific strategic or demographic reasons.
