Musikstimuli refer to musical inputs used to elicit responses in experimental, clinical, or applied settings. They encompass various facets of music, including melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, timbre, and lyrics, and can be excerpts from existing works or synthesized sequences. In research, musikstimuli are selected or manipulated to probe emotional reactions, attention, memory, decision-making, or physiological arousal. The term is frequently used in German-language literature, though discussions in English often use "music stimuli" or "musical stimuli."

They vary along multiple dimensions: tempo (speed), mode (major/minor), genre, familiarity, complexity, volume, and lyrical content. Familiar or preferred pieces often produce stronger or more consistent responses. Experimental designs may include randomized presentation, block designs, or within-subject comparisons, with control conditions such as nonmusical sounds or silence. Listeners' individual differences (musical training, culture, mood) influence responses.

Outcomes are measured via self-report (valence, arousal, liking), behavioral tasks (speeded responses, memory tests), and physiological indices (heart rate, skin conductance, pupil dilation) or neuroimaging (EEG, fMRI).
